Bazaruto Lodge is a relatively large resort-style lodge situated at the
far north end of Bazaruto Island. This lodge has been going for years,
but has recently been renovated and is owned by the Pestana Group from
Portugal giving it a distinctive Mediterranean feeling.
There are 40 A-frame chalets with thatched walls, 28 of which are deluxe rooms built on the beachfront and 12 standard rooms set back among the lush vegetation. Even though visitors can choose between deluxe and standard rooms, they are basically the same, except for the location. Honeymooners are in for a treat and special additions include bath salts, champagne on ice, sunrise drives and breakfast in bed.
Enjoy lazy afternoons around the communal pool where you can sun-tan on comfortable sofas or play board games, pool, ping-pong and fuseball in the open lounge. Alternatively spend time reading in the library or surfing the internet. Next to it is an open-fronted dining room, overlooking the sea, where all meals are served. When the tide is low the sea retreats 3km from the shoreline. A climb to the lighthouse is a must as it offers an amazing view across the island.
The bar closes at 23:00 so expect undisturbed and peaceful evenings. Reviewers call this a special island with some writers not wanting to leave this relaxing island.
The island is characterised by turquoise waters, tropical fish, beautiful beaches and interesting wildlife all protected under the Bazaruto National Park. We suggest diving and snorkelling as Bazaruto has coral reefs rich in a variety of fish and coral species.
Bazaruto Lodge is perfect for families and holiday makers seeking a lively venue that is not as secluded as other options available on the island.

Food is superb and the chef makes use of as much local ingredients as possible including fresh seafood in a mix of Mozambique and Portuguese flavours. All meals are served buffet style in the Flamingo restaurant and present an array of options. Breakfast consists of muffins, breads, pastries and cereals served with fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, tea and coffee. Alternatively you can choose a full cooked option. Lunch is a selection of fish and shell-fish and a meat dish or two ending off with a pudding. Main courses were cooked to order from an a la carte menu.
