Map of Benguerra Island Accommodation

Benguerra Island is 11kms long and 5kms wide and consists of savannah, forest and wetland eco-systems that house a diverse population of flora and fauna. This idyllic island getaway, originally named “Santa Antonio” was declared a National Park in 1971 but was later named “Benguerra” after a local tribal chief. Indulge in hours of relaxation under coconut palms, enjoy the diversity of birdlife, visit the historic freshwater lakes, sail in a traditional Dhow and search the seas for the legendary dugongs.

Benguerra Island is known to be one of the most romantic places on earth. Guests enjoy ample privacy within an idyllic unspoiled island paradise surrounded by magnificent beaches and, further out, pristine coral reefs.

Dolphins are often seen in the bay and whales migrate along the coast from July to September. Game fish such as King-, Queen- and Spanish Mackerel, Kawakawa, Kingfish, Queenfish and Sailfish can be caught all year round. Marlin season is November-March.

Benguerra Island is in the Bazaruto National Park and sustains a varied array of fauna and flora including natural forest, savannah, dunes and wetland eco-systems. Guided walks or leisurely birding drives though the indigenous forest is a bird-lovers delight.
