Bilene (San Marthino) is a holiday village located around 160 km from Maputo and overlooks Uembje Lagoon (San Marthino Lake). It is situated in the Inhambane Province and also not too far from Xai-Xai, another holiday spot.
Bilene is the closest Mozambican beach resort to Johannesburg and attracts many South African visitors during the holiday seasons. This is
definitely an outdoor lover's paradise!
Days in Bilene are spent next to the waters of San Marthino Lake, where
visitors enjoy the tranquil waters while sipping on local beers. Visit the town of Bilene where you can enjoy local cuisine in quaint restaurants and bars and for those who enjoy an evening out, Bilene has a weekend disco.
The lagoon is huge (8 km wide and 27 km long) and goes down to a depth of 50 m. Activities around the lagoon includes skiing, water tube riding, wake snake, wake boarding, knee boarding, wind surfing, kayaking, snorkelling, fishing and scuba diving. Flamingos flock to these waters and create a beautiful picture while wallowing for food. We suggest taking a flight on a micro-light airplane. From this height you can experience the full beauty of the area. Bilene has some markets and shops where basic products can be purchased.
