Ibo Island was the capital of the Cabo Delgado province before this title was given to Pemba and it is still one of the most prominent islands in the Quirimbas Archipelago. Ibo is one of the Quirimbas Islands in the Indian Ocean off northern Mozambique. It is also one of the most ancient settlements in Mozambique where history dates back to at least 1600. The Island was a prosperous trading post on the coast of East Africa. The locals are friendly and outgoing people with some of the most interesting characters who might share their stories.
Ibo Island feels like a place where time stood still and is filled with history and Arab, Chinese, Indian, European and African influences that are still visible around the ancient stone town.
