Hotel Escondidinho is located on a quiet street in Stone City in the
middle of Ilha de Mozambique. This converted house is a perfect spot to
discover the interesting island. The Hotel Escondidinho, a pretty blend of European and Swahili architecture, was originally a feitoria, or trading house, and for much of the 19th century slaves were the chief commodity. Now Hotel Escondidinho is a beautifully restored house with a shaded courtyard and a great restaurant.
The hotel has airy rooms with simple decor and light fabrics. Some rooms overlook the pool and courtyard area while others look out onto the street. 6 rooms have their own en-suite bathrooms and another 4 rooms share an external bathroom. The hotel is definitely worth a visit if you want to break away from the normal "business-like" hotel set-up.
Guests can relax in the courtyard where there are loads of cosy lounge areas. Don't expect full luxury, but rooms are clean and safe and this hotel is a perfect hub from where you can explore Ilha de Mozambique. The island is fascinating and building structures combine Arab, African and European styles. Visit the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Baluarte, the oldest European building in the Southern hemisphere.
