If you decide to use the Komatipoort border:-

The Mozambican side of this border is called Ressano Garcia. Maputo city centre is 120 km from Ressano Garcia and there are two tollgates along this well maintained road. If you got through the border quite late and need to sleep over, there is a guesthouse about 6 km from Ressano Garcia on the left.

33 km after the first toll road you will come to a set of traffic lights – turn left and follow the road up to the next toll gate 10 km further. About three km after this second toll gate is a sign just before a bridge – over that shows Xai-xai. Take this turnoff left and keep straight.

Once through Maputo, Xai- xai is 200 km further. You will pass Maraquene, ( buy some honey ) Manhica, ( a woven reed mat is essential when camping or on the beach ) Macia ( R20 p.kg for Macadamia nuts ) and Chisano ( More curios ). We recommend filling up with fuel in Xai-xai.

A good view is to be had towards the lakes as you come through Quissico a well as over the bridge at Inharime. About 40 km further you will find a sign reading LINDELA. This is about 240 km after Xai-xa.To the left will lead to Maxixe and is the road north. For Inhambane you turn right and follow for 40 km into Inhambane.

As you enter Inhambane, carry on in Avenida (road) Marginal, until you reach the concrete jetty and turn right into Avenida Republica. It’s a main road and there’s probably not  a sign marking it. You will pass some banks and a filling station. Carry on up to the circle. Keep straight and turn right at the opposite side off the circle. 500m up the road a sign leads to the airport and then follow the tar up to a pub called Babalaza on the right. Keep left at the fork (the road gravel road). 9 km down this road you will find a major gravel/sand road on the right at a big tree leading to the lighthouse and lodges. Lots of signposts here. Carry on with this road towards the cell phone tower, the first lodge on the left hand side JUST after the cell tower is FARAWAY.
