About Inhambane

Inhambane was established in 1560 by the Portuguese and is one of the oldest settlements in Mozambique. It is 470km from Maputo and is located in southern Mozambique where it lies on Inhambane Bay. Sites worth a visit include Praia dos Cocos, Tofo, Guinjata Bay and Barra. Inhambane is Mozambique’s premier tourist destination. Portuguese is the official language.

Relaxing beaches, brilliant weather and the freshest seafood imaginable makes Inhambane a must stop destination for a holiday in Mozambique.

If you like exploring, then Inhambane will tickle your fancy. This interesting town is filled with quirky bars, restaurants and a museum as well as fascinating buildings and architecture. Stroll through the central market, "Mercado Central", where traders sell everything from spices to prawns, fish and vegetables. Diving is another experience not to miss and you might just spot a Giant Manta Ray, Whale Shark or sea turtles!
