Rooms at Nkwichi Lodge are uniquely designed with huge double beds, "walk-in" mosquito nets, en-suite bathroom and outside toilet. Yes, it's the "loo-with-a-view"! Each room has stairs leading to an outside sitting area with comfy chairs and you can request snacks and drinks to be served here.
The lodge is designed using materials from the surrounding area and in doing so Nkwichi makes use of the local people in the area. In return this enhances the communities’ standard of living by upgrading medical facilities, education and transport.
The main two story building consists of a curio shop downstairs and a bar that serves as a restaurant on the upstairs level. Lunches and dinners are also served on a comfy and spacious platform on the beach.
Guests can borrow diving and water sport equipment from the Chitenje (open sided hut) on the beach. Nkwichi is known as one of the best snorkeling spots in Lake Malawi.
Other activities include bird watching with knowledgeable guides, visiting local farms and villages as well as various walks in the beautiful area.
Meals are served buffet-style. Breakfast is served on a raised platform from where you can enjoy a beautiful sunrise over the lake. You have a choice of continental or cooked breakfast. Light lunches are accompanied by a variety of salads and fresh bread. Dinners are usually a 2 course affair.
Remember to specify if you have any dietary requirements as the lodge is remote.
