About Quelimane Beach |
Quelimane was found back in the early 15th century as a Swahili trading city and today the city acts as an important terminal for Mozambiques interior exporting products such as sisal, tea, palm products, Fish (Shrimp and Prawns in particular) and Quelimane has one of the largest coconut plantations in the world, which is a 20 minute drive to a beach, East of Quelimane!
The city has all the main Facilities and supplies including a domestic airport, 2 large hospitals, cathedral, mosques, a university, major car dealerships, Banks, ATM's, supermarkets, local markets that sell fresh produce and seafood, quaint side street cafés, excellent restaurants, very comfortable accommodation and more. The city has mixture of old colonial architecture and modern infrastructure, and a lot of the population in Quilimane and in the Northern parts of Mozambique as well...are Islamic. With a large Islamic community, you will find quite a few Mosques.
If you take a drive North East from Quelimane, you will end up on a beautiful beach called Zalala beach. White sands stretch for miles in either direction. Accommodation available here.
