RE-OPENING 1 NOVEMBER 2011, finally the wait is over! The Bettany's have done it again, and this time its Quilalea Private Island. Azura at Quilalea is a hidden gem, somewhere to retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. As is the Azura trademark, the impeccable attention to detail has been paramount in the design, the finishes, and the overall wow factor of the island experience!
Situated in the famed Quirimbas Archipelago, Quillaea is an Eco boutique lodge and the area where its situated forms a fully protected marine sanctuary. The real commitment to the environment is evident with the lodges unique way of letting guests control their own energy consumption, through a wall switch in the villas. They can opt for either "ECO" or "LUX" thereby resulting in power for bare minimum requirements like lights and a fan or the luxury of all the mod cons including air conditioning.
Being a otherwise uninhabited island the lodge is made up of a mere 9 villas which can accommodate a lucky 18 guests. Entirely furnished from natural materials, from the thatched roofs to the sun loungers on private decks. There are 4 Sunrise Villas and 4 Sunset Villas with the premium spot being Villa Quilalea, as the name suggests its the most astounding accommodation in the Archipelago, and features a private plunge pool, dressing room, outdoor shower and its own separate sitting and dining area. All villas are literally just a few steps from the beach! The whole lodge is also available on a private basis for those wanting total privacy and seclusion.
The 'public areas' in the lodge are chill zones - and fitted with the state of the art equipment. There is also a newly revamped Padi Dive and Watersports Center, as well as a TV and media room for those who want to stay in touch. What could make this absolute paradise even more special... Cliff Top African Spa, here guests are offered signature treatments, keeping with the theme of the lodge, ingredients are all traditional and clients can lay back and enjoy being gently massaged head to toe with ground up coconut shells and warm marula oils!
Activities are literally endless, and with the tropical climate you can enjoy hours outdoors. Whether you choose to play above on beneath the waves there is something for everyone, from an island Boabab nature walk to sea kayaking, Island hopping and remote beach picnics to snorkelling and deep sea fishing.
While the island has no local population, this does not mean there aren't plenty of otherwise "submerged locals" ! The waters surrounding this stunning island is just as beautiful as the property itself. Turtles and Dolphins are spotted all year round with Humpback Whales journeying to the warm waters in mid July through to October.
