Overview

Medjumbe Private Island is the smaller of the two Rani Resorts in Mozambique and has 13 chalets. Situated 130km north of Pemba and around 40km north of Matemo. Medjumbe is a small island less than a kilometre long and around 320m wide. Everywhere you go you will be surrounded by sea and beach!

Chalets have slatted walls and thatched roofs and private verandas with wooden chairs and a hammock. Each chalet has its own private plunge pool and sun loungers as well as an outside shower. The chalets are air conditioned and have ceiling fans creating an airy haven. The interior is an eclectic mix of Swahili and Arabian decor and has satellite TV and a spacious en-suite bathroom.

Spend time in the bar or on the large stone terrace next to the swimming pool where you can enjoy sun-downer cocktails. You might be lucky enough to spot a few humpback whales if you are there during August and October.

This island is ideal for those who enjoy diving and you are sure to see a huge variety of fish including manta rays, dolphins and pelagic fish frolicking around the bright corals. There is a dive centre on the island and friendly staff will share their favourite dive spots with you.

If you don’t plan on visiting other surrounding areas we suggest staying here for at least 5 nights to fully appreciate what this very special island has to offer.
