Guludo Beach Lodge is located in the northern part of Mozambique and the
location was specifically chosen to boost the surrounding areas and the
local community. Guludo Beach is a perfect destination for those
looking for a beautiful, secluded stretch of beach that is not
overflowing with tourists.
Guludo Beach Lodge is more rustic in comparison to the other properties in the Quirimbas, but it is a perfect example of responsible tourism that benefits the local community and the environment. 5% of all the revenue generated by the lodge goes to providing clean drinking water, mosquito nets and schooling in Nema.
There are three accommodation types available at the lodge. The five Adobe Bandas offer spacious rooms with lime washed walls, comfy furniture and locally made terracotta tile floors. The front of the banda can open up for a breathtaking sea view or closed for privacy. There are some quirky touches such as a hanging space for clothes and your morning coffee is passed on through a hatch in the wall! In front of each Banda is a wide veranda where a hammock and some beach loungers invite you to relax.
The Tented Bandas are airy tents with high thatch roofs, canvas walls and mosquito gauze enhancing the feeling that you are sleeping outdoors.
The Honeymoon and Family suites is larger and offer more privacy, but they are based on the Adobe Bandas building style. The family suite has an extra room for children and the honeymoon suite has a private outside lounge can be converted into an outside sleeping space.
Bathrooms are open-air spaces with tiled floors, reed walls, shower, twin sinks and a toilet overlooking the sea. Hot water is delivered by housekeeping and a lever system controls the flow of water.
The main lodge has a simple lounge and dining area with open sides, high thatch roofs, stone floors and locally made furniture. Seats are sofas moulded out of stone and covered by soft scatter cushions. This combined with the bar and book swap area creates a stylish and rustic area where you can relax and interact with friendly staff and visitors.
There is no electricity at Guludo Beach Lodge, so this might not be everyone’s ideal holiday, but the lodge is full of character and a better reflection of real island living.
