Kapama and Marlin Lodge

For decades Bush Lodge has been Sabi Sabi's flagship lodge, famed for its warmth, vibrancy and legendary hospitality. Bush Lodge is a luxurious safari escape set in the heart of the Sabi Sabi bushveld overlooking a waterhole and an African plain.

Bush Lodge's charm is evident from the outset. Here you will savour uncompromising high standards of service, efficiency and personalised attention.

Azura Lodge, is situated on the western coast of Benguerra Island, and is the newest beach lodge to be built on the Bazaruto Archipelago.

In addition to being a very stylish boutique hotel, the owners have gone out of their way to make this beach escape as eco- and community-friendly as possible. When building the lodge, instead of bring in outside contractors, the owners employed local islanders, teaching them new skills to enable them to go on to find employment after completion of the lodge.

Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1 -

Depart Johannesburg by road to Kapama Lodge. Discover this amazing wilderness and extraordinary scenery en route to the lodge. (L,D)

DAY 2 -
Expect a wake up call at between 5am and 5.30am and gather for tea or coffee and rusks before heading out at first light. If you are lucky, the big cats will still be around after their night of hunting. This is Big 5 country (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo) all of which are possible to see during a two-day safari in Kapama Game Reserve.

There are also many other species to be seen, large and small, as well as fascinating plants and colourful birds. Stop halfway through the morning game drive for hot drinks and rusks from the Landrover snack box and return at around 9am for breakfast. During the rest of the day, you are likely to see wildlife like nyala antelope and vervet monkeys around the lodges.

At about 3.30pm everybody convenes for high tea, before departing with the same ranger/tracker team for the day's second African bush safari.
Enjoy a sundowner drink along the way (not included in the tariff), and get out of the vehicle to stretch your legs and watch the sun go down over the distant Drakensberg Mountains.

As darkness descends it's time to return to the safety of the Landrover and let the tracker scan the landscape with a spotlight picking out the glinting eyes of nocturnal animals. Return to the lodge at around 7pm, where there is time to freshen up before dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 3:
Spend your days engaging in the wonders of nature on game drives or just relax by enjoying what the lodge has to offer like the Wellness Centre. Nestled in the African bush is a piece of paradise designed to uplift your mind, body and soul. Complete with a state of the art gym, equipped with cardio and weight training facilities, the centre energizes and uplifts in the healing presence of nature.
While connecting with the call of the wild indulge in an array of uniquely designed spa treatments. These include facial, body and beauty treatments. Two signature treatments romantically merge the needs of couples. The Marula Rasul Steam Treatment is a sensual experience for two. Merging the wisdom of the Orient with the raw energy of Africa, this magical treatment balances the elements of water, fire, earth and air within the body. Another unique treatment for couples is the Kapama Pinotage Bliss; combining a deep body massage with an aromatic bathing experience in a detoxifying vine extract.
Stepping from one invigorating treatment to the next, a lap pool welcomes you to lie back and relax under a breathtaking bushveld sky. Reconnect with your inner beauty and strength as you lose yourself in an African panoramic vista. (B, L, D)

DAY 4 -
This morning you may join for the early morning game drive or embark on a little adventure before saying farewell to the bush….The giant candy-striped balloons lift off at first light and drift at the mercy of the wind for about an hour. This usually means that you pass right over Kapama Game Reserve and the skill of the balloon pilot is such that you can skim the top of the trees and spot the wild animals below. The hot air balloon landing can be bumpy, so hold on tight then celebrate with a glass of bubbly. This memorable experience is highly recommended.

Prepare for your flight from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport to Vilanculos, Mozambique.

Arrive in Vilanculos and be whisked away by boat transfer to the magnificent Bazaruto Archipelago. Discover a world of endless turquoise ocean and pristine beaches.

Spend your days underwater, snorkelling, diving or relax on the beach and enjoy the sun! (B, L, D)

DAY 5 -
Breakfast at Marlin Lodge is divine with a variety of food to choose from a scrumptious menu and buffet.

Why not spend the day diving and exploring the warm topical waters surrounding the Bazaruto Archipelago. It is home to some of nature’s finest marine life. A spectacular variety of fish, coral, marine mammals and plants wait to be explored by divers and snorkellers.

Led by a resident PADI qualified diving instructor, diving sites and depths are varied along all levels of diving experience. They also have an on-site diving centre with all the necessary equipment.

Water temperatures range from 28°C in summer (30°C between December and February) to 22°C during the winter months.

The various dive sites can be reached with the 27-ft catamaran Novacat, equipped to accommodate 8 divers and their equipment.

All dives take place at locations as determined by Marlin Lodge’s dive instructor. (B, L, D)

DAY 6 -
The sun makes an early appearance and the day is young! Breakfast is first on the agenda followed by doing whatever you wish.

A trip to Pansy Island is definitely very highly recommended. Pansy Island is situated ½ hour north of Benguerra Island. Enjoy lunch which is set up under colourful umbrellas and rugs, spread out on pure white sand. Water sports are also offered or take a quiet stroll along the beach to search for the unique Pansy Shell. (B, L, D)

DAY 7 -
Surrender to the resounding African splendour that is Marlin Lodge. Rekindle your soul and allow yourself to be captivated by the allure of a relaxed way of life. A timber sanctuary, a paradise on stilts - Marlin Lodge promises definitive, self-indulging repose like no other. (B, L, D)

For those seeking restoration and reawakening, a visit to the Beauty & Wellness Spa Centre will soothe the sun-basked body and clear the mind.

Marlin Lodge offers a small, intimate wellness centre with an internationally qualified therapist to look after all your wellness needs.

The treatment menu offers a wide range of massages, reflexology, aromatherapy, facials and hand and foot treatments.

DAY 8 -
Pack up your belongings and don’t forget your memories as you prepare for your flight back to Johannesburg. (B)
