Demares Resort

Overview

Situated just 70km north of Xai Xai and 10 km fron the EN1, on the beach front, is Demares Resort. It can only be access via either a 4x2 or 4x4 vehicle (approximately 5km from the resort) and is one of the most well kept and maintained resorts on the Mozambique Coast. The accommodation includes Self-catering chalets as well as camp sites. The chalets sleeps 4 to 8 people are fully equipped and serviced daily. The camp sites are shaded on beautiful lawn and are secluded in Cycad forest.  Each campsite has its own private ablution facilities, warm water electricity and is serviced. 

Demares is the perfect resort for a fishing holiday! The resort’s main activities encompass all sorts of fishing. There are staff available to assist in launching boats and fishermen staying at the resort can even collect a list of co-coordinates of reef's, ledges, deep sea ledges, snorkelling areas and other well known fishing spots from the resort management team on their arrival. Rock & Surf fishing at Demares Resort is spectacular. Demares visitors can access many of the sub-continents most abundant fishing spots  which is Mermaids Pools, King 's Pool (appropriately named for its population of Kingfish).Family fishing outings are common at Demares, with the entire family walking down onto the beach at the resort, or taking a short drive to one of the popular fishing spots nearby. The area surrounding Demares is well known for its Kingfish, Stumpnose, Pompano and Bonefish. There are also a number of deep water ledges in the area where King Mackerel and Giant Barracuda are to be found. The rocks ledges and beaches in the area are some of the very best Fly Fishing spots to be found on the Mozambique Coastline and a short walk to the Rock Pools just 800m down from the resort at will bring the Demares vistor to an extraordinary underwater world of snorkelling. This is mentioning but a few fabulous fishing options at Demares!

If fishing is not really your thing you can enjoy sitting on your patio while sipping sundowners and watching the whales,   dolphins and turtles playing in the water. The  Chidenguele coast definitely has it all so come and explore the reefs and natural tidal pools, either by swimming, snorkelling or scuba diving you can also bronze up on the unspoilt beach, spot birds, hike or simply relax around the shore of the freshwater lake or just enjoy the scenery and take a different view of the beach & sea or in-land lakes and coastal forest. There are also braai-lapa's on the beach to relax under while watching the kids playing on the beach or in the shallow rock and sand pools.

Directions

From Maputo take the coastal road (EN 1) North to Xai-Xai (200 km). Continue
North through Xai-Xai to Chidenguele (71.5 km from Xai-Xai bridge).
At Chidenguele, turn right in front of the soccer field and continue to the Tjunction
(100m).
Turn left at the T-junction and continue for 150m. At the thatched bar on your
left hand side, turn right onto a sand road. After you have passed the freshwater
lake on your left hand side, follow the signs to Paraiso de Chidenguele Beach
Lodge / Praia (Beach). Directions from the main road are signposted all the way
to the Lodge. Distance from the main road to the lodge is 5 km.
As you reach the Fork in the Road – Right to Paraiso de Chidenguele, you fork to
the left and continue on the dirt road past the Lodge, following the
Nhambabavale Lodge Direction Boards.
You now follow the direction signs for Nhambavale Lodge and continue for a
further 3 to 4km.
As the road reaches a T-Junction almost at the gate to Nhambavale Lodge, you
take the turn right towards the Beach, and continue until you enter the camp at
De Mares Resort.

Children's Policy

Children are welcome and children under the age of six stay free at the campsite.

Terms & Conditions

•Arrival from 14h00 and departure before 10h00 please.

•Each Unit is serviced by our own staff. Please do not employ additional local staff unless done via their office, as access to the resort is controlled for security purposes, & they will not be permitted on-site.

•Furniture, cooking utensils, fridge/freezers, cutlery, gas stove & geyser, linen & mosquito nets are provided. You will need to supply your own towels, toilet paper, soap & washing powder, kitchen towels, gas braai’s & bottles.

•Permanent electricity is supplied to all units, and the water is safe to drink.

•Use of mattresses outside and removal from the beds is STRICTLY forbidden. Guests disobeying this rule will be required to replace these mattresses at their cost.

•Washing of clothes may be arranged with the staff assigned to your unit. Please arrange payment directly, and please supply all cleaning materials etc.

•Please report any problems or defects to the Office and these will be attended to without delay.

•Cleaning of Fish must be done at the waters edge, and may not be done inside any of the houses.

•No Pets of any kind are allowed in the resort or in the Houses.

•The number of persons occupying the Units must comply with the reservation made, and may not exceed the number of beds provided. Any additional persons will be charged for and where there are insufficient beds, alternate accommodation may be booked if available, or such persons will be required to depart from the resort.

•Only Gas and/or Charcoal Fires are permitted, (No Wood Fires are permitted) and only in the Braai facility provided. Please ensure that any fires are extinguished once finished, and that these are made only away from the Thatched roofs and Boma’s.

Please note that access to the beach and vehicle use on the beach is VERY STRICTLY controlled by
MOCOA (Moz Environmental Authorities), and the rules listed below are in accordance with their regulations.

•Speed Limit in the resort is 15km/h, and you are requested to drive in a clockwise direction as shown on the attached site map of the resort.

•Please drive only on the Roads provided, and do not drive over dunes or other areas. Please do not park on any grassed areas or areas where ground covers are growing. The Stabilisation of the sand is very sensitive in the resort.

•No 4 Wheelers/Quads of any kind are permitted in the Resort, and all such vehicles are required to be left in the Quad parking near the front entrance. Please use Quads inland of the resort only.

•Only licensed drivers may drive vehicles in and around the resort.

•Access to the beach is limited to 4X4 vehicles only, and ONLY if in possession of a Fishing Permit and where such access is for fishing or launching of boats. No pleasure drives are permitted. Quads are not permitted on the Beach.

•Fishing Permits are available from the Office at a cost of MT400 per vehicle. Kayaks, Canoes, Jet Ski’s & Boats are also required to have permits prior to accessing the Beach.

•Driving on the Dunes is also strictly forbidden, and MOCOA will fine any person in contravention of this law without hesitation.

•Please note that where the Authorities find Tourists in contravention of these regulations, you will be fined up to MT 50 000 (Cash Fine), and your property may also be confiscated by them.

•Boats and Jet Ski’s may be parked at the House or in the Boat Area, and all loose or removable items should be secured against possible pilferage.

•All Boats must have valid RSA Seaworthy Discs, and you must be in possession of a Skippers Ticket before you are permitted to launch your craft at sea.
