What to do in The Bazaruto Archipelago

Diving in the Bazaruto Archipelago is uncrowded with diverse and rich marine life. Dive sites reach between 12 to 30 metres in clear waters. Divers will discover groups of dolphin, humpback whales, whale sharks, sharks, manta rays and turtles.

Honeymoon experiences to this paradise include daily snorkelling above the splendid coral reefs for an unforgettable experience. We have unbeaten honeymoon deals with flights and loads of extras to all Bazaruto Archipelago accommodation options.

Ranked as the best Marlin fishing destination in the Eastern Indian Ocean, the seas around the six Bazaruto Archipelago islands are a fisherman’s playground.

Experience a traditional sailing dhow around the Bazaruto Archipelago. All of the islands support populations of traditional fisherman and their families but many do not live permanently on the islands.

Horse riding is another popular activity on the Islands and wildlife on the mainland includes the Samango monkey inhabiting the islands and mangroves, as well as small antelope, flamingos, pelicans, otters, and crocodiles in the inland island lakes.

The Bazaruto Archipelago was declared a Marine National Park in 1972, protecting unique habitats (freshwater lakes, sand dunes, tidal flats, forest, savannah and wetlands) and species (birds, dugong, turtles, dolphins, humpback whales and so much more).

Where to stay in the Bazaruto Archipelago

Renowned as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean” the Bazaruto Archipelago offers exclusive accommodation options to all of our guests. Peace, solitude and incredible sunrises and sunsets.  The Bazaruto Archipelago consists of six idyllic islands lying off the Mozambique coastal town of Vilankulo: Bazaruto, Benguerra Island, Magaruque, Santa Carolina (Paradise Island), Bangue and Pansy Shell Island. Mozambique packages to the Archipelago are some of the best on the African continent.

There are three properties on Benguerra Island. Azura Benguerra our personal favourite, the new Azura Marlin Beach and & Beyond Benguerra Lodge. All offer their own unique styles and service with varying price ranges and inclusions.

Bazaruto Island has a single offering, Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort and Spa. It’s the largest of the resorts in the archipelago and great for groups and families.
