Azura at Quilalea Island

Azura at Quilalea is the second luxury Indian Ocean Retreat from the Azura Retreats group. Bringing Azura’s trademark African-chic style to Quilalea Private Island, a wholly uninhabited island paradise- perfect setting for honeymooners and those guests seeking pure privacy!

The Quirimbas National Park extends from just south of Quilálea, to north of Rolas and Matemo Islands. The island is approximately 86 acres in size, and apart from Azura at Quilálea staff and guests, it is completely uninhabited- giving guests a much desired secluded get-away!

The 4 Kusi Villas have been beautifully revamped in that subtle yet stunning Azura way, with spacious bathrooms, natural furnishings and pure African elegance. Kusi Villas have the premium locations offering views across the Indian Ocean, with an additional outdoor shower and beach sala.

Kusi is a Swahili word referring to the trade winds that blow from the south in the winter months. This breeze provides a welcome relief in a balmy tropical climate!

Snorkel the island’s shores, dive the house reef that spans the main beach, picnic on the remote turtle beach, kayak through mangroves or relax in a hammock beneath the giant baobabs that stand sentinel over the island…

Children are welcome in the Kusi Villas at Azura Quilálea, and the marine paradise offers numerous possibilities for children to explore. Family Packages to Azura are designed for those fun-filled days in the sun! The island may also be booked out in its entirety for a complete private island experience.

Azura at Quilalea is very eco-sensitive, solar power and wind generated-electricity feeds eco-friendly rechargeable crystal batteries and the island’s own desalination system. Guests are able to control their energy consumption through a switch at their villa: they can choose an ‘Eco’ or a ‘Luxe’ setting – to change the energy consumption of their villa.

Each of the villas is constructed using local materials, with natural coral stone walls, carved wooden beams, makuti thatch roofs, and timber wooden decks. Windows have no glass, but have shutters that can be opened to allow the breezes through, or closed for more privacy at night.

The Azura Quilalea villas are widely spaced, each looking out over the ocean. Inside, is a king-sized bed (can be configured as twin beds) draped with mosquito netting, and solid wooden furniture and fittings; its high quality and stylish in its simplicity. The lodge is intimate and remote, and the perfect destination for honeymooners or those wishing to get away from it all.

En-suite facilities and feature bathrooms, including indoor/outdoor showers, double vanities and separate toilet/bidet, air conditioning and ceiling fans, tea and coffee making facilities, minibar and wooden decks with sun loungers and hammocks for relaxing! Outside, there are daybeds and sun-loungers for relaxing, and the private decks have fabulous uninterrupted views out to the beach and out to sea and a newly added private plunge pool- could it get any better for Luxury Accommodation in Mozambique!

Guests can enjoy the attention of a dedicated Mozambican Butler/Host that takes extra special care of your meals and services during your stay.  This includes setting up special spots to sip sundowner cocktails or a romantic private candlelit dinner venue with all the bells and whistles. Each room has its own butler, on hand to cater to your every whim. The Spa at Quilalea Private Island has a stunning location on the Island’s cliff top where there is a natural rock alcove with rhythmical splashing of the water at high tide to aid in the relaxation process.
