Azura Quilalea

I discovered a holiday destination that ticks every box imaginable. My journey takes me to Northern Mozambique to the beautiful private Island, Azura at Quilalea situated in the Quirimbas Archipelago. The Island is inside the Quirimbas Archipelago Marine Sanctuary. Completely uninhabited, this Indian Ocean island offers complete exclusivity, unparalleled natural beauty and an abundance of marine life.

Azura Quilálea is the ideal honeymoon destination for those in search of the perfect romantic island getaway, or the ultimate holiday for those in need of relaxation, adventure and rediscovery.

Azura at Quilálea’s nine private villas are built from natural coral stone and makuti thatch, and have all been revamped to increase comfort and make better use of the interior space, with natural finishing’s, indoor/outdoor showers, private plunge pools, private decks stretching out to the beach, daybeds and sun-loungers for relaxing. Each villa offers magnificent sea views, providing a haven of luxury island accommodation. Surrounded by the sparkling, azure waters of the warm Indian Ocean. Built around eco-friendly principles, electricity is harnessed through solar power and wind generation and water captured through rainwater harvesting and desalination.

The main bar and pool area offers plenty of areas to relax in whilst enjoying views of the ocean. The informal lounge coming off the bar area offers satellite TV and a laptop with internet access. The Jellyfish Dining Room is open on the sides to make best use of the trade winds that are wonderfully cooling on a summer night. There is also a wine cellar for private dining and to showcase the proprietor’s wines. A fully equipped PADI Dive and Watersports Centre.

Truly authentic, warm, professional staff and your own personal butler takes the pampering to a whole new level! Know that the Azura Team deliver inimitable style and refined luxury in presenting Quilalea. Unforgettable culinary experiences, great quality food served in imaginatively varied places, every day.

Relax or stay active, as you prefer, Quilálea Private Island caters for everyone. Fantastic snorkelling literally on the beach, be surrounded by a kaleidoscope of miraculous coral reefs and fish.

You can relax in a hammock beneath one of the giant baobabs on the island or work on your tan on the pure white sandy beaches. Indulge in a spa treatment, explore the island and go diving or snorkelling and you may even see Green Turtles, White Tip Reef Sharks and schools of Batfish that dwell in these glorious warm waters.

Island in Mozambique

It is the only island in Mozambique with a house reef, accessible directly from the main beach, making it a fabulous destination for snorkellers, scuba divers and lovers of marine life. It is also home to more than 50 giant baobabs and 180 species of migrating birds.

GETTING THERE

By air: Airlink offers 6x weekly flights from Johannesburg to Pemba International Airport. LAM offers twice-weekly flights from Nairobi, daily flights from Johannesburg via Maputo, and 3x weekly flights from Dar Es Salaam which require an overnight in Pemba due to their late arrival.

From Pemba to Quilalea: Guests are met at Pemba by a member of the Azura Quilalea team and taken to the Eurocopter (which has the capacity to carry 20kgs of soft luggage per person including hand luggage) where they fly directly to Quilalea Island on a mesmerising 20-minute flight.

The beautiful Azura Quilálea offers discreet luxury and team that definitely delivers! See our amazing packages to this private retreat here.
