Sentient Sentidos Beach Retreat on Barra Beach
Holiday travel to Mozambique is trending and Sentidos Beach Retreat is the chosen boutique resort of the moment. Find it ideally situated in Inhambane right on the shores of Praia da Barra, a veritable oasis between lagoon and ocean. Come to Africa’s East coast this summer and retreat from the heat to a hotel built over the Indian Ocean and a delightful mangrove swamp besides.
Sentidos Beach Retreat is just that, a sentimental beach refuge tucked between a beautiful deep blue ocean and a languid lagoon packed with indigenous mangrove forests. For travellers to Mozambique who want the ultimate beach solitude in lush palm tree seashores, this place is a sentient destination on an endless white beach called Barra, fringed with coconut palms.
Created from wood, thatch and reeds, Sentidos becomes an extension of this magnificent environment. Beautifully handcrafted timber boardwalks lead guests to the lodge, over the ever-changing lagoon and its resident birds and wildlife. Hints of the Maldives, memories of Mauritius, dreams of Seychelles – a Mozambique paradise easily accessible and committed to upmarket holidays in the true tropical island style.
The lagoon waters seem to ebb and flow with the ocean tides, high tide filling up the catchment, and low tide emptying it out again – the cycle of a beautiful marine ecosystem here long before the explorers arrived in these parts. This is the legendary Barra Beach Peninsula, renowned for its excellent surfing experiences on wondrous waves and diving with gigantic sea creatures. Considered to be one of the top tourism regions in Mozambique, Ponta do Barra (Barra Point) boasts colourful coral reefs, tailor-made for diving and snorkelling. Barra Beach is only 30 minutes from Inhambane town and a honeymoon paradise. Secluded beaches, rustic accommodation in coconut groves and endless horizons.
Beach Refuge at Stylish Sentidos
Sentidos Beach Retreat is a boutique hotel designed for tranquillity in nature, a place where guests come to get in touch with the ocean, the mangroves, the living creatures and themselves. A long neat, covered timber walkway links the main guest areas to the 12 mesmerising ocean chalets, carefully built on the sand on stilts to avoid any negative impacts to the environment and to make the most of the endless flat turquoise ocean vistas.
Polished timber beams, floors and furnishings are enhanced with natural materials sourced from this region of Mozambique – grass, stone, reeds, and woven textiles with an ethnic flair. Sublime dune accommodation with modern amenities set away from the social areas promote a sense of remote romance.
A few family villas with more space and beds, or luxury villas for couples feature bamboo-lined ceilings, Indonesian-themed interiors with lounges, deep soaking bathtubs and comfy beds that cater for all visitors. Add to this a well-stocked minibar, tea/coffee trays, LCD satellite TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi and toiletries and guest have everything and more at their fingertips for an unforgettable beach holiday.
Sentidos is a gem found on Barra Beach where succulent seafood meals are served in a restaurant with a sun deck and beach bar, an infinity swimming pool and a pampering spa. Tuck into a fusion of Mozambique and international flavours, plunge into the swimming pool and sip a funky cocktail as you watch the sun move across the sky.
Massages and skin treatments await before a choice of water sports including scuba diving, snorkelling, deep sea fishing, quad bike tours through to the local villages or boat excursions to nearby islands in the bay. This brand-new boutique resort has it all! We forgot to mention the reception, cute gift shop, the gym and Kids Club too!
Mozambique Travel can organise your Inhambane holiday right now with all flights and transfers included, and maybe an extra few days in Maputo and the Bazaruto Archipelago!
A luxury boutique hotel like Sentidos must offer the best accommodation on the Barra Beach Peninsula, and in all of Inhambane for that matter! We recommend these 12 timber beach chalets with endless blue sea and lagoon views, set into a grove of mangroves where real coconut palm sway and offer refuge for birds of all kinds.
Designed to perfection, the suites are tastefully elegant with some ethnic touches and the use of natural materials reminds guests that the environment should remain untouched. Brimming with space and light, the suites boast large windows and muted shades of browns, creams, beiges and burnished greys in keeping with nature’s palette. Each classic cabin features its own colours to offset its own views of verdant trees, pearly beaches, azure seas and endless baby blue skies.
Furnished with fans, air conditioning, large soft sofas and rugs, deep bathtubs and showers, decks with chairs and super lighting, the villas lead off to the main lodge via the covered boardwalk lit with cute lanterns as the sun sets into the ocean. Every time you walk this route, note the lagoon levels, look for birds, and see how the mangroves support a wealth of life.
