Chicari Camp is one of only two premium camps situated inside Gorongosa National Park. Ten canvas tents overlook Chicari Pan, surrounded by woodland, seasonal wetlands and open floodplains.

Each tent has an en-suite bathroom, comfortable bedding, solar-powered lighting and views of the surrounding wilderness. Raised walkways connect the accommodation with the camp’s shaded dining, lounge and fire areas.

Chicari is the more accessible of Gorongosa’s two premium camps, but it is not a budget safari camp. Its value comes from the intimate setting, fully inclusive accommodation, professional guiding and direct access to one of Southern Africa’s most interesting conservation landscapes.

Scheduled Flight Days from Johannesburg to Gorongosa

Fly from Johannesburg to Beira and connect with the scheduled light-aircraft service to Gorongosa National Park. The light-aircraft flight takes approximately 35 minutes. On arrival, transfer from the airstrip to Chicari Camp.

Scheduled light-aircraft flights between Beira and Gorongosa currently operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The most practical five-night travel patterns are Wednesday to Monday or Friday to Wednesday, allowing the scheduled service to operate in both directions.

A Monday arrival followed by a five-night stay would result in a Saturday departure, when the scheduled light-aircraft service does not operate. That routing requires a private charter, an overland transfer or a longer stay and is not included in the advertised price.

Soft-sided luggage is required for the light aircraft. The current baggage allowance is 20 kilograms per person, including hand luggage, subject to the airline’s final conditions.
