Why This Journey Reveals Mozambique Beyond One Beach Stay
This itinerary brings together Mozambique’s wildlife, capital city, UNESCO World Heritage history and Indian Ocean coastline. Each destination has a distinct purpose: Gorongosa brings wilderness and conservation, Maputo creates a comfortable pause, Mozambique Island adds cultural depth, and Nuarro provides time on a quieter northern coast.
The five-night Chicari stay and six-night Nuarro stay are based on qualifying Stay 5, Pay 4 and Stay 6, Pay 5 offers. These savings allow more time in the safari and beach sections, while two nights in Maputo and Mozambique Island prevent the itinerary from becoming a series of rushed connections.
This is not a simple two-lodge holiday. It is a journey for travellers who want a wider understanding of Mozambique and value an itinerary in which wildlife, history, culture and coast are all given meaningful space.

Four Distinctive Stays from Safari Tents to Coastal Chalets
Chicari Camp is one of only two premium safari camps inside Gorongosa National Park. Its ten canvas tents overlook Chicari Pan, where wetland, woodland and floodplain habitats support varied wildlife and prolific birdlife. The five-night stay is fully inclusive, with meals, local beverages and daily scheduled safari activities.
The Polana Serena Hotel provides a comfortable pause in Maputo, with two nights in a Standard Room and breakfast included. On Mozambique Island, Villa Sands is a small waterfront hotel within historic Stone Town, also with breakfast included.
The journey ends at Nuarro Eco Lodge, where six nights in a beach chalet are booked on a full-board basis. Nuarro suits travellers who value nature, space and locally connected experiences more than conventional resort entertainment.
Wildlife, World Heritage History and an Untouched Coast
At Chicari, scheduled activities may include morning and afternoon game drives, guided walking safaris and boating excursions, depending on seasonal and operating conditions. Five nights provide time to explore different habitats without forcing every activity into a short stay.
Mozambique Island adds a different kind of discovery. Its architecture, places of worship, fortifications and communities reflect centuries of African, Swahili, Arab, Indian and Portuguese influence. A guided historical tour can be added to visit the Fort of São Sebastião, Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Baluarte, museums, churches, markets and residential areas.
At Nuarro, swim, snorkel, kayak, walk along the coast or simply slow down after the more active safari and cultural sections. Selected snorkelling, kayaking, a massage and locally arranged experiences may be included according to the final quotation. Diving, specialist marine activities and private excursions must be confirmed separately.

A Carefully Sequenced Route Through Mozambique
The itinerary begins with a flight from Johannesburg to Beira and a scheduled light-aircraft transfer into Gorongosa National Park. After the safari, fly from Gorongosa to Beira and connect onward to Maputo.
From Maputo, fly to Nampula and continue by private road transfer to Mozambique Island. After two nights, travel by private road transfer along the Nampula coast to Nuarro Eco Lodge. At the end of the stay, return by road to Nampula Airport for the flight routing back to Johannesburg.
All flight routes, operating days and fares are subject to final confirmation. Flight schedules may require adjustments or an additional connection, particularly between Gorongosa and Maputo. Mozambique Travel checks every flight and transfer against the full day-by-day itinerary before confirming the booking.
For Experienced Travellers Seeking a Wider Mozambique Story
This package is designed for travellers who want to see Mozambique beyond a single safari or island stay. It suits guests interested in wildlife, conservation, culture, heritage, architecture and a remote Indian Ocean coastline.
It is particularly rewarding for travellers comfortable with several flights and longer road transfers in exchange for a more varied and distinctive journey. The final Nuarro section gives the itinerary time to slow down after Gorongosa’s active safari days and Mozambique Island’s cultural exploration.
This is not built around a conventional resort experience. It is a connected Mozambique journey for travellers who value sense of place, changing landscapes and responsible travel planning.

Let Mozambique Travel Coordinate Mozambique’s More Complex Routes
This is not a simple two-lodge holiday. It depends on several flights, Gorongosa’s seasonal operation, long-distance road transfers and two separate accommodation offers working together.
Mozambique Travel has planned journeys throughout Mozambique for 25 years. We will check every flight and transfer against the complete day-by-day itinerary before confirming the booking. If an airline schedule changes, we will adjust the route, number of nights or connection point rather than sell an itinerary that does not work.
You receive one accurately costed and accountable itinerary, from Gorongosa’s airstrip to the final flight home from Nampula.
