Independent Dune Chalet Living and Ocean View Lodge Comfort

Ponta Membene is an eco-friendly lodge inside Maputo National Park, behind the dunes of a long Indian Ocean beach. Accommodation is in a One-Bedroom Dune Chalet with a private bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers, kitchen facilities, living space and a braai area. The chalets use fans rather than air conditioning.

Mozambique Travel focuses on Ponta Membene’s Dune and Forest Chalets and does not sell the camping accommodation. The property suits travellers who appreciate nature, space and independence without expecting a five-star safari lodge.

For the final three nights, Machangulo Beach Lodge provides a more fully serviced stay. Your Ocean View Room has air conditioning, a private bathroom and a deck overlooking the coastal landscape. Breakfast and dinner are included daily.

Wildlife is more dispersed than in Kruger or the Sabi Sands, and sightings cannot be guaranteed. The experience is defined by varied landscapes and the opportunity to explore a recovering wilderness. Optional guided game drives can be arranged, but activities and park fees are excluded unless specifically included in the final quotation.

At Machangulo, optional activities may include kayaking, snorkelling, diving, fishing, dhow trips and village visits. Specialist, guided and motorised activities usually carry an additional charge and depend on suitable tides, weather and sea conditions.

4×4 National Park Roads and the Final Boat to Maputo

Meet your driver at Maputo International Airport or another prearranged Maputo location, then travel by road and 4×4 into Maputo National Park. The final section follows sandy park tracks and requires a suitable vehicle.

After four nights, travel directly by 4×4 from Ponta Membene to Machangulo Beach Lodge through the national park. Transfer times depend on sand, rain and prevailing road conditions.

At the end of the holiday, take the scheduled boat from Machangulo to Maputo Marina. The crossing normally takes approximately 70 to 80 minutes, after which a road transfer continues to Maputo International Airport. The boat usually leaves Machangulo in the morning and operates according to tides, weather and available daylight.
