TRAVEL PACKAGE OVERVIEW

From Kruger Wildlife to Mozambique Beaches

This seven-night package combines three nights beside Kruger National Park with four nights on Mozambique’s Machangulo Peninsula.

The itinerary begins at Pestana Kruger Lodge near Malelane Gate. Its Crocodile River setting provides convenient access to southern Kruger while remaining more affordable than many private safari lodges.

After three nights, travel by road from Pestana Kruger through the Lebombo–Ressano Garcia border to Maputo. From Maputo Marina, a scheduled boat crosses the bay to Machangulo Beach Lodge.

The final four nights are spent in an Ocean View Room with breakfast and dinner included daily. This is a practical option for travellers who want to combine Kruger and Mozambique without returning to Johannesburg between the safari and beach portions.

Why This Kruger-and-Machangulo Route Makes Sense

The package begins at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport and ends at Maputo International Airport. Flights into Kruger Mpumalanga and out of Maputo are excluded, allowing travellers to fit the route into a wider Southern African itinerary.

This open-jaw structure reduces backtracking and gives the seven-night holiday a clear direction: wildlife access at the start, a cross-border journey through Mozambique, then four relaxed coastal nights at Machangulo.

Three nights at Pestana provide two complete days for exploring southern Kruger. Four nights at Machangulo provide three complete beach days after the overland transfer, with enough time to relax beside the ocean or add optional coastal activities.

Crocodile River Access and Ocean View Room Comfort

Pestana Kruger Lodge is a four-star hotel on the Crocodile River near Malelane Gate, one of the main entrances into southern Kruger National Park. It is outside the national park rather than inside a private concession.

The riverfront position may create opportunities to see animals and birds from the lodge grounds, but it should not be confused with an included safari programme. Breakfast and dinner are included, while lunches, drinks, Kruger conservation fees and optional safari activities are excluded unless listed in the final quotation.

At Machangulo, stay in an air-conditioned Ocean View Room with a private bathroom and deck. The room should not be described as a villa with a plunge pool. Breakfast and dinner are included daily.

Kruger Game Drives and Flexible Coastal Days

Guests enter Kruger through the public gate for guided or self-drive wildlife viewing. Guided morning, afternoon and full-day game drives can be arranged at an additional cost. We recommend prebooking at least one full-day drive or two shorter guided drives, especially during busier travel periods.

Wildlife may include elephants, buffalo, rhinos, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, antelope and numerous bird species, but no particular species or sighting can be guaranteed.

At Machangulo, relax on the beach or beside the pool, or add activities according to weather, tides and personal interests. Kayaking, snorkelling, diving, fishing, dhow cruises, village visits and guided walks may be available. Specialist, guided and motorised activities generally cost extra.

A Cross-Border Road Journey and Tide-Dependent Boat Transfer

Arrive at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport and transfer by road to Pestana Kruger Lodge near Malelane Gate. After three nights, travel by road through the Lebombo–Ressano Garcia border to Maputo Marina.

Border-processing times vary, so an early departure is essential. From the marina, take the scheduled boat to Machangulo Beach Lodge. The crossing normally takes approximately 70 to 80 minutes, depending on tides and sea conditions.

On the final day, take the scheduled morning boat from Machangulo to Maputo Marina and continue by road to Maputo International Airport. Any onward flight must be selected around the confirmed boat schedule; if a safe connection is unavailable, an additional Maputo night may be required.

For Travellers Wanting Kruger and Mozambique Without Backtracking

This package suits international and SADC travellers who want wildlife access near Kruger followed by a quieter Mozambique coast stay, without returning to Johannesburg between the two.

It works especially well for couples and friends who want an affordable Kruger base, open-jaw routing and a flexible beach stay rather than an all-inclusive private safari lodge and resort itinerary.

Travellers who want a fully guided safari, private-reserve game drives or a more luxurious bush experience should consider adding guided drives or choosing an alternative Kruger lodge. Mozambique Travel can assess whether this route suits your priorities and budget.

Pestana Kruger and Machangulo Package Price

Let Mozambique Travel Make the Cross-Border Route Work

Mozambique Travel has arranged safari-and-beach journeys for 25 years. We coordinate the airport arrival, Kruger stay, cross-border road transfer and tide-dependent Machangulo boats as one itinerary.

Tell us your travel dates, nationality and preferred safari programme. We will confirm accommodation, add the appropriate number of game drives and identify flights that work with the road and boat transfers.

The route should be booked as a complete journey, since border timing, boat daylight limits and Maputo flight schedules all affect whether the itinerary can operate smoothly.
