Rio Azul is positioned where the Govuro River estuary meets the Indian Ocean, north of Vilanculos and near Inhassoro. Its setting combines sheltered estuary water, mangrove channels, dune-backed beach and access to a quieter side of the Mozambique coast.

This five-night package is for qualifying South African residents who want more than a conventional beach resort. Days can include estuary exploration, kayaking, birdwatching, fishing and time beside a largely undeveloped beach. Return flights from Johannesburg and the road transfer from Vilanculos create a straightforward fly-in journey despite the lodge’s secluded location.

The package combines Johannesburg flights, Vilanculos transfers, full-board meals and beachfront chalet accommodation into one resident-rate holiday. Rio Azul’s sheltered estuary offers an alternative to a conventional open-ocean beach resort, providing activities even when offshore conditions are unsuitable.

Beachfront Chalet Accommodation

The package is based on one of Rio Azul’s six beachfront chalets, configured with a double or twin beds. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom, private patio and views across the estuary or beachfront.

The chalet is designed for two adults, not a three-bedroom family villa. It may accommodate one child under six only if the current occupancy policy and package rate are confirmed. Chalet guests use the main lodge swimming pool; the private pools belong to the two three-bedroom family villas.

Explore the Govuro Estuary

Guests have access to an allocated motorized estuary boat and sea kayaks, subject to lodge rules, tides, weather and operating instructions. The estuary offers mangroves, tidal channels and birdlife, while the beach is suited to walks and relaxed coastal time.

Estuary-boat fuel is excluded unless explicitly stated in the final quotation. Deep-sea fishing, offshore snorkeling, island excursions, specialist guiding and tackle are additional arrangements.

Johannesburg Flights and Vilanculos Transfers

Return economy flights between Johannesburg and Vilanculos, plus return road transfers between Vilanculos Airport and Rio Azul, are included subject to the confirmed airfare allowance. Rio Azul is approximately 110 kilometres north of Vilanculos near Inhassoro, and the road transfer commonly takes around two hours depending on conditions.

Mozambique Travel will align flights and transfers before accommodation is confirmed to avoid unnecessary overnights or unsuitable connections.
