This five-night Rio Azul family package is built around one of the lodge’s two three-bedroom villas rather than placing a family in separate hotel rooms. The villa provides private bedrooms, a lounge, dining space, kitchen area, outdoor deck and private plunge pool, giving parents, children and grandparents room to spend time together comfortably.

The package is currently priced for a family of four. The exact combination of adults and children, including qualifying child ages, must be confirmed before publication and booking. Although the villa can accommodate a larger group, additional guests will change the accommodation, flight and transfer costs.

Family Space Without a Resort Schedule

Five nights provide time to enjoy the estuary, beach and villa without rushing through a fixed activity programme. The full-board basis removes much of the work associated with a self-catering villa, while the private living areas and pool give the family space to follow its own rhythm.

Three Bedrooms, Children’s Loft and Private Pool

Each Rio Azul villa has three en-suite bedrooms, a children’s loft with an additional bathroom, a lounge, dining space, kitchen area, deck and private plunge pool. The lodge currently describes a maximum capacity of up to six adults and four children, but the final rooming configuration depends on ages, bed arrangements and lodge approval.

The pool is not confirmed as fenced or childproof. Parents remain responsible for supervising children around the pool, beach, estuary and boats.

Estuary Adventures for the Whole Family

The villa has an allocated motorized aluminium boat for estuary use, along with sea kayaks for close-to-lodge exploration. Families can combine gentle boating, birdwatching, fishing, beach walks and mangrove exploration around the children’s energy levels and the tides.

Boat use is subject to lodge instructions, weather and local conditions. Life jackets should be worn, and families should confirm suitable children’s sizes before travel.

Johannesburg Flights and the Vilanculos Transfer

The package includes return flights from Johannesburg to Vilanculos, subject to the confirmed airfare allowance and availability. Rio Azul is approximately 110 kilometres north of Vilanculos Airport near Inhassoro, with the road transfer normally taking around two hours depending on conditions.

Families should keep medicines, snacks and essential children’s items in hand luggage for the drive. The longer transfer is part of the trade-off for Rio Azul’s secluded estuary-and-beach setting.

This package suits families and multigenerational groups who value space, nature and activities they can enjoy together. It is particularly strong for parents or grandparents who enjoy boating, fishing, kayaking or birdlife.

Rio Azul is less suitable for families needing a children’s club, babysitting, a supervised swimming beach, several restaurants or nightly entertainment. Couples without children should consider the separate Rio Azul chalet package rather than paying for a large family villa.
