Every room has a private swimming pool, an outdoor shower and a deck with its own dining sala. Selected rooms can be connected by elevated walkways, sometimes described as skywalks, allowing parents and children to stay close while retaining their own space.

Children over six are welcome at Varty Camp. Younger guests can take part in age-appropriate activities that introduce them to animal tracking, bush skills, conservation and life in the reserve. This does not turn the lodge into a conventional family resort. Varty Camp is in the Londolozi Private Game Reserve within Sabi Sand, adjoining Kruger National Park and forming part of the Greater Kruger ecosystem. Guests enjoy the same wildlife area and highly regarded guiding as those staying at Londolozi’s other camps. What distinguishes Varty is not access to different animals, but its family suitability, private pools, interconnecting arrangements and strong sense of place.

For Mozambique Travel, Varty is also an excellent starting point for a safari and beach holiday. It can be followed by a private-island stay at Azura Benguerra or a southern Mozambique beach experience at White Pearl. These are very different journeys, and the best option depends on who is traveling, the children’s ages, the length of the holiday and how secluded you want the beach experience to feel.

The Sand River and surrounding woodland create varied habitats, so game drives are about much more than finding the Big Five.

Morning and afternoon game drives are generally led by an experienced ranger and tracker team. Their ability to interpret tracks, animal behavior and changes in the landscape is central to the Londolozi experience. Guided bush walks may also be available, subject to age, weather and safety considerations.

This option can work well for travelers wanting a shorter safari and beach holiday or those who prefer to avoid an additional island transfer. Its private-pool suites and Indian Ocean setting still provide a luxurious finish, but the journey and atmosphere are distinct from Benguerra Island.

White Pearl should therefore not be presented as a substitute for Azura Benguerra. One is a southern Mozambique mainland experience, while the other is a private island in the Bazaruto Archipelago. We recommend between them according to the available time, preferred travel route, family requirements and desired style of beach stay.

Who Should Choose Londolozi Varty Camp?

We recommend Varty Camp particularly highly to families with children over six who want an accomplished Sabi Sand safari but do not want to compromise on comfort between game drives. It also works well for grandparents, parents and older children traveling together, provided the correct room arrangement is secured.

It is equally suitable for travelers who value conservation, guiding and family heritage more than highly polished formality. The atmosphere is luxurious, but the property retains the character of a camp that has evolved over generations.

We would not automatically recommend Varty to everyone. Couples wanting a smaller lodge with a more private atmosphere may prefer Leopard Hills. Parents traveling with children under six will need an alternative property, while adults wanting the quietest possible Londolozi experience may be better suited to another camp within the reserve.

Choosing correctly matters because Varty is only one part of the journey. The number of safari nights, room arrangement and onward Mozambique route need to work together rather than being booked as separate decisions.
