Our July 2026 Review of Azura Benguerra’s Villas

Azura Benguerra has 20 beachfront villas divided across six accommodation categories. Every villa has a private pool, beach sala, outdoor living area, and dedicated butler-host, but the differences between the categories are more important than they initially appear.

Choosing the right villa is not simply a matter of booking the largest option within budget. Position, privacy, walking distance from the main facilities, pool size, bathroom design and family configuration can all affect the experience.

A smaller villa in a secluded part of the property may suit one honeymoon couple better than a larger villa close to the restaurant. Another guest may value convenient access to activities, additional family space or an interleading arrangement more than complete privacy.

Mozambique Travel updated this guide following a July 2026 site inspection by Senior Travel Designer Rushaan Levy and Sales Director Lutfiya Davids. Rushaan stayed in Infinity Beach Villa 7, while the team assessed the villa positions, resort facilities, dining arrangements and overall guest experience.

Their purpose was to look beyond the resort photographs and determine how the accommodation works in practice. They considered which villas feel most private, which are closest to the central areas, which upgrades provide meaningful value, and which configurations genuinely work for families.

This guide compares the Beach Villa, Luxury Beach Villa, Infinity Beach Villa, Royal Beach Villa, Villa Amizade, and Presidential Villa. It also covers Azura’s butler-host service, dining, Peri-Peri Beach Club, access from Vilanculos, and the activities that make a longer stay worthwhile.

How We Assessed the Accommodation

Our recommendations distinguish between what our consultants experienced personally and what has been verified through current Azura information.

Rushaan stayed in an Infinity Beach Villa, and the team inspected the available villa categories and their different positions across the property.

Villa Amizade was occupied during their visit, while the Presidential Villa was undergoing refurbishment. The descriptions of their completed interiors and facilities are therefore based on current resort specifications rather than a claim that our consultants stayed in every villa.

This distinction matters.

Photographs can show floor space, pools and ocean views, but they rarely explain whether a villa feels exposed or secluded, how far guests must walk to dinner or whether an expensive upgrade will make a meaningful difference to the holiday.

Our assessment considers each villa as part of the complete experience. Privacy, position, practical living space, honeymoon appeal, family configuration, and value are considered alongside the published dimensions and facilities.

Twenty Villas Across Six Categories

Azura Benguerra has three Beach Villas, three Luxury Beach Villas, ten Infinity Beach Villas, two Royal Beach Villas, one Villa Amizade and one Presidential Villa.

Every villa is air-conditioned and positioned near the beach. Each has a private pool, shaded beach sala, sunbathing deck, outdoor sofa and dining area.

The accommodation is designed around indoor and outdoor living, allowing guests to move easily between their bedroom, private deck, pool and the beach.

Every villa also has a dedicated private butler-host. During our inspection, the service was attentive without becoming stiff or intrusive. Hosts remembered names and preferences and quietly coordinated meals, sundowners and daily arrangements.

The villas include minibars, tea and coffee facilities, Wi-Fi, safes, robes, slippers, bathroom amenities and mosquito nets.

Evening turndown was handled particularly well. Housekeeping prepared the room, lowered the mosquito nets and applied mosquito repellent while guests were at dinner.

These details may appear small, but they contribute considerably to the quality of a tropical island stay.

Beach Villas at Azura Benguerra

The Beach Villa is Azura Benguerra’s most compact accommodation category, providing approximately 80 square meters under roof.

It includes a private plunge pool, covered deck with a daybed, separate sunbathing deck, and private beach sala. The bathroom has a double vanity, indoor shower and single outdoor shower.

The villa opens toward the beach, creating a direct connection between the bedroom, deck, pool and shoreline.

Beach Villas 16, 17 and 18 occupy a particularly private position toward the northern end of the property. They suit couples who prioritize seclusion and do not mind being farther from the restaurant and central lodge facilities.

The Beach Villa should not be dismissed as an entry-level category with a compromised experience.

It retains the features that define Azura Benguerra: beachfront accommodation, a private pool, outdoor relaxation space and personal butler-host service.

For many couples, including honeymooners, the Beach Villa provides everything required for a private island holiday. It is especially appropriate for guests who intend to spend their days exploring the archipelago and would rather direct more of their budget toward activities, flights or a longer stay.

Couples wanting a bathtub, larger pool, and more extensive indoor and outdoor living space should consider the Infinity Beach Villa.

Luxury Beach Villas at Azura Benguerra



The three Luxury Beach Villas provide approximately 100 square meters under roof. They offer a larger bedroom suite, more generous indoor-outdoor living and a larger plunge pool than the Beach Villas.

The additional space makes movement between the bedroom, deck and pool feel easier, while twin outdoor showers add to the island atmosphere.

Position is particularly important within this category.

Villa 1 occupies a quieter location and may suit guests wanting more privacy without moving into one of the highest-priced categories.

Villas 8 and 10 are closer to the central facilities. Villa 8 is near the water-sports and activity center, while Villa 10 is close to the Star Bar, library, and main lodge areas.

One couple may therefore choose Villa 1 for privacy, while another may find the convenience of Villa 8 or Villa 10 more valuable.

Mozambique Travel can request a preferred position. A particular villa number remains subject to availability and Azura’s operational requirements.

Infinity Beach Villas at Azura Benguerra

The Infinity Beach Villas are Azura Benguerra’s most numerous and popular accommodation category. Following our inspection, this is also the category we consider the strongest all-round choice for many couples.

Rushaan stayed in Infinity Beach Villa 7.

Her assessment was that the villa achieved an excellent balance between space, privacy, pool size, and value without moving into the substantially higher price range of the Royal Beach or Presidential accommodation.

Each Infinity Beach Villa provides approximately 110 square meters under roof. The accommodation includes a spacious deck with outdoor dining and seating, a private infinity pool, beach sala and separate sunbathing area.

The bathroom has a bathtub, double vanity, and indoor and outdoor showers. Selected villas may be arranged as twins or doubles, while some provide interleading possibilities for families.

Villa 7 is conveniently positioned for access to the main areas. Other Infinity Beach Villas extend into quieter sections of the property, including positions closer to the Beach Villas and spa.

The booking request should therefore identify the traveler’s priorities.

A honeymoon couple may prefer a more secluded position, while a family may require an interleading configuration. Guests wanting shorter walking distances may value a villa closer to the main facilities.

For honeymooners, the Infinity Beach Villa provides a worthwhile upgrade. The larger pool, bathtub, generous bathroom, and spacious deck create a more complete private retreat, particularly during a stay of five nights or longer.

Royal Beach Villas at Azura Benguerra

The Royal Beach Villas provide approximately 172 square meters under roof and represent a substantial increase in indoor and outdoor living space.

Rushaan’s practical description was that they feel like an Infinity Beach Villa with a significant extension.

The principal advantages are the additional lounge, second bathroom, and much larger private living environment.

The lounge may be adapted to accommodate young children, making the Royal Beach Villa relevant to smaller families as well as couples wanting considerably more space.

Outside, guests have a large covered deck, substantial infinity pool and smaller sitting pool. Several relaxation areas make it possible to spend most of the day at the villa without feeling confined to a single deck or seating area.

The Royal Beach Villas occupy a private section of the property.

For travelers expecting to spend most days diving, snorkeling, or exploring the islands, the Infinity Beach Villa may provide better value.

For guests wanting the villa itself to become one of the defining features of the holiday, the Royal Beach category becomes more compelling.

Villa Amizade for Families and Friends

Villa Amizade is Azura Benguerra’s two-bedroom private villa. Its name means friendship in Portuguese, reflecting its suitability for families, friends, or two couples traveling together.

The villa provides approximately 285 square meters under roof. It has two bedrooms, a shared lounge and extensive outdoor living areas centered around a ten-meter private pool.

The deck provides separate areas for dining, relaxing, and spending time together. The villa also has a kitchen and wine bar, television, sound system, games and films. Private chef service can be arranged at an additional cost.

Villa Amizade was occupied during our site inspection, so Rushaan and Lutfiya could not inspect the completed interior.

They reviewed its position and discussed its family configuration, while the specifications in this guide have been checked against current Azura information.

The main advantage is not simply the second bedroom.

Villa Amizade gives a family or two couples a genuine communal area rather than requiring everyone to gather in one bedroom or on a single villa deck.

It creates the atmosphere of a private island residence while retaining access to Azura’s restaurants, activities and hosting team.

The correct choice between Villa Amizade, interleading Infinity Beach Villas and a Royal Beach Villa depends on the number and ages of the children, preferred bedding arrangements and the amount of privacy each traveler requires.

The Presidential Villa at Azura Benguerra

The Presidential Villa is Azura Benguerra’s largest and most private accommodation. It is positioned separately from the main retreat and has its own entrance and helipad.

The villa provides approximately 425 square meters under roof and contains three individual bedroom suites.

These are supported by substantial indoor and outdoor living areas, a kitchen, wine bar, dining space and private bar.

Outside, guests have an oversized infinity pool, two beachfront salas, extensive sundecks and an exclusive-use treehouse. A secluded roof terrace and several entertaining areas add to the feeling of a complete private residence.

Current Azura information states that the Presidential Villa can accommodate up to ten people, including children. The precise combination of adults, children and bedding must be confirmed before booking.

The villa was undergoing refurbishment during our inspection. Rushaan and Lutfiya assessed its scale, location and general layout but did not experience the completed accommodation.

Our recommendation is therefore based on its verified facilities, exceptional separation and suitability for private groups rather than any claim that our consultants stayed in the finished villa.

The Presidential Villa is designed for multigenerational families, couples traveling together and private groups seeking maximum space and discretion.

Its position near the Royal Beach Villas can also create a useful arrangement for larger parties requiring several separate villas within the same general area.

Which Villa Is Best for a Honeymoon?

Every Azura Benguerra villa can provide a private and romantic honeymoon. All six categories have a private pool, beach sala, outdoor living space, and a dedicated butler-host.

The correct decision depends on budget, length of stay, and how much time the couple expects to spend at the villa.

The Beach Villa is an excellent option for honeymooners prioritizing privacy and value. Its smaller size does not remove the features that make Azura romantic, and its quieter location may be more important to some couples than additional interior space.

Our strongest all-round honeymoon recommendation is the Infinity Beach Villa.

The larger pool, bathtub, spacious deck and expanded living area create a meaningful upgrade, particularly during a stay of five nights or longer.

The Royal Beach Villa is more appropriate for couples who want their accommodation to become a central part of the honeymoon and are comfortable paying for considerably more space.

Villa Amizade and the Presidential Villa will generally provide more accommodation than two people require unless a special celebration, privacy requirement or personal preference justifies the additional expense.

Romance at Azura also extends beyond the villa. Private dinners may be arranged on the beach or villa deck, while sunset dhow cruises, private picnics and couples’ spa treatments can be incorporated into the stay.

The most romantic honeymoon is not necessarily created by booking the largest villa. It comes from choosing the right position and combining it with carefully selected experiences.

Which Villa Is Best for Families?

Family accommodation requires careful planning because children’s ages, sleeping arrangements, and privacy requirements all influence the recommendation.

Selected Infinity Beach Villas may provide useful twin, double or interleading configurations. A Royal Beach Villa can suit a smaller family that values a separate lounge and second bathroom.

Villa Amizade provides the clearest two-bedroom private-residence arrangement, while the Presidential Villa is designed for larger or multigenerational groups.

For an extended family, combining Royal Beach Villas with the Presidential Villa may allow different generations to stay nearby while retaining separate accommodation and personal space.

Mozambique Travel confirms the bedding, occupancy, and child policy before recommending a villa. This prevents a family from selecting expensive accommodation simply because it appears large enough in photographs.

Azura’s Private Butler-Host Service

The private butler-host service is one of Azura Benguerra’s strongest features. The approach is warm and personal rather than formal or ceremonial.

During our inspection, the hosts quickly learned individual preferences and handled daily arrangements without repeatedly interrupting guests.

Communication is supported by WhatsApp and Wi-Fi across much of the retreat. Guests may receive morning information about weather and tide conditions, followed by practical updates about activities, meals or sundowners.

This allows guests to remain informed while deciding how private or social they want the day to be.

Sundowners may be enjoyed at the Star Bar, at a private beach sala or at the villa.

One of Rushaan’s most memorable service details appeared on the final evening. Knowing that the group would leave by helicopter the following day, the host created a small helicopter and a farewell message in the butter dish.

It was a simple gesture, but it demonstrated the thoughtful attention that distinguishes personalized hospitality from routine luxury service.

Dining at Azura Benguerra

Dining is an important part of an Azura Benguerra stay because most guests remain on the island for several nights.

The resort prevents meals from becoming repetitive by changing dining locations and creating different experiences around the property.

Jellyfish Restaurant provides a central setting for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Meals may also be served beside the water, on the beach, at Peri-Peri Beach Club or privately at the villa.

Private picnics can form part of selected island excursions.

During the inspection, Rushaan found the menus varied and the food consistently strong. Dinner generally provided a choice of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes, while breakfast and lunch were generous.

Private beach dining is particularly appropriate for honeymoons, anniversaries and celebrations. Lanterns, a dedicated table and the sound of the ocean create an experience that feels carefully arranged rather than simply moved from the restaurant.

Fresh seafood purchased from local fishermen also connects the dining experience to Benguerra Island and supports the surrounding community.

Peri-Peri Beach Club

Peri-Peri Beach Club introduces a more sociable and energetic side to the Azura experience.

The beach club is located approximately one kilometer along the beach from the main retreat. It has a swimming pool, beach bar, raised salas, cocktails and Mozambican-inspired food in a relaxed beachfront setting.

For guests staying several nights, it creates a useful change in the rhythm of the holiday.

A couple may spend one day almost entirely in the privacy of their villa and choose a more social beach-club lunch or afternoon on another.

Operating days, access, and reservation arrangements can change according to season and occupancy. Mozambique Travel confirms the current arrangements when planning the stay.

How to Get to Azura Benguerra

Azura Benguerra is situated on Benguerra Island within Bazaruto Archipelago National Park, approximately 14 kilometers from Vilanculos on the Mozambique mainland.

Guests fly into Vilanculos International Airport. Scheduled regional flights connect Vilanculos with Johannesburg, while selected services may operate from other Southern African gateways.

Travelers combining Kruger with Mozambique may also be able to use regional flights between Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport and Vilanculos when they operate on the required dates.

From Vilanculos, guests normally continue to Azura Benguerra by scenic helicopter transfer.

The short flight provides an exceptional introduction to the archipelago, with aerial views over islands, channels, reefs, sandbanks and turquoise water.

Helicopter and regional flight baggage restrictions apply. Soft-sided luggage is normally the most practical option, and the applicable weight allowance must be confirmed for the booked services.

Activities at Azura Benguerra

The villas remain the principal subject of this guide, but the range of marine and island experiences makes a longer stay worthwhile.

Guests can explore Two Mile Reef on snorkeling and diving excursions, sail on a traditional dhow at sunset, visit neighboring islands, fish in the waters of the archipelago, or enjoy a private picnic on a remote beach.

Kayaking, paddleboarding, spa treatments and guided island drives provide additional options.

Seasonal humpback whales may be seen in the waters around the archipelago. Dolphins, turtles, rays and other marine species may also be encountered, although wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed.

Dugongs survive within the protected Bazaruto marine environment, but they remain rare and should not be promoted as a guaranteed sighting.

Rushaan regarded the guided island drive as particularly worthwhile. Led by a guide born on Benguerra, it introduced the island’s vegetation, communities, school and clinic and placed the resort within its wider social and environmental setting.

The sunset dhow cruise provided a slower shared experience and an opportunity to meet other guests at the end of the day.

Activities and inclusions depend on the booked rate, weather, tides and availability. These should be confirmed when planning the holiday rather than assumed from a general resort description.

Our Professional Assessment

Azura Benguerra’s strength lies in the relationship between its beachfront villas, personal hosting, varied dining, and access to the Bazaruto Archipelago.

Our July 2026 assessment confirmed that the property can suit very different travelers when the accommodation is selected carefully.

Beach Villas provide privacy and value for couples. Selected Luxury Beach Villas provide convenient access to the main facilities. Infinity Beach Villas offer the strongest all-round balance for many honeymooners and couples.

Royal Beach Villas add meaningful living space, while Villa Amizade and the Presidential Villa provide genuine family and private-group solutions.

The most important recommendation is to choose the accommodation according to its position and intended use rather than relying on the category name alone.
