Villa Martins is particularly suitable for couples, small families and travellers adding three to five nights on Inhaca after staying in Maputo. Boat transfers can be arranged from Maputo, with the private speedboat journey normally taking approximately one hour under suitable conditions.
Activities may include kayaking, snorkelling, fishing, trips to Portuguese Island, visits to Santa Maria and guided exploration of Inhaca. The precise programme depends on tides, weather and local operating conditions.
Nahyeeni Lodge: Exclusive Use for Families and Groups
Nahyeeni Lodge is a larger exclusive-use option designed for private groups. The property accommodates groups of approximately four to 22 guests and is normally booked with exclusive use of the lodge.
Accommodation is divided between the main house, garden suites and cottages. The property has a swimming pool, pool bar, outdoor dining and entertainment areas, while its boat can be used for transfers and private excursions.
Nahyeeni is best suited to extended families, groups of friends, celebrations and fishing parties who want to share a private island base. Can You Visit Inhaca Island on a Day Trip from Maputo?
Yes. Inhaca is one of the most rewarding day trips from Maputo, particularly for travellers who have limited time but still want to experience Mozambique’s islands and marine environment.

Getting to Inhaca Island from Maputo
Most visitors reach Inhaca by boat from Maputo. Villa Martins and private lodges can arrange speedboat transfers, while scheduled public services may be available on selected days.
A private or lodge-operated speedboat normally provides the simplest journey because the transfer can be coordinated with accommodation and airport arrangements. Journey times vary with the departure point, vessel, tides and sea conditions.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Inhaca Island?
May to October generally offers the most comfortable conditions for an Inhaca Island holiday. These cooler, drier months bring lower humidity and less rainfall, making them well suited to beach walks, village exploration, fishing and boat excursions. June, July and August can feel cool during early-morning or late-afternoon crossings, so travellers should pack a light jacket. Tides, wind and daily sea conditions remain important in every month and can affect transfer times, snorkelling and trips to Portuguese Island or Santa Maria.
Humpback whales migrate along the outer southern Mozambique coastline from approximately July to November, with August and September usually providing the strongest opportunities. They may occasionally be seen during offshore boat trips, but sightings are never guaranteed and Inhaca should not be promoted as a dedicated whale-watching destination. Dolphins, turtles, reef fish and birdlife may be encountered at different times of year, with responsible local guidance essential in protected marine areas.
November to March is hotter, more humid and wetter. The water is warmer and summer marine visitors such as whale sharks and manta rays may occur in the wider region, but encounters around Inhaca are unpredictable and should not be marketed with Tofo-style seasonal promises. Tropical rain and regional weather systems can also disrupt boat crossings and marine activities, particularly from January to March.
April, May, October and November can offer a useful balance of warm weather, lighter demand and possible accommodation value. Weekends, South African school holidays and the Christmas and New Year period can still be busy. The best dates therefore depend on whether the priority is comfortable weather, fishing, diving, family travel or a short extension from Maputo.
