Bush and Beach Holidays in Mozambique 2026
A Mozambique safari and beach holiday combines the excitement of African wildlife with several slower days beside the Indian Ocean.
Begin with game drives in Greater Kruger, explore the conservation landscapes of Gorongosa National Park, or choose a compact southern journey through Maputo National Park. Afterwards, continue to Vilanculos, Benguerra Island, Bazaruto Island or Machangulo for beaches, marine activities and time to relax.
The best combination depends on more than the lodges you choose. Flight schedules, road transfers, island connections and the number of nights in each destination all influence the quality of the journey.
Mozambique Travel has arranged safari and beach holidays for more than 20 years.

The strongest itinerary is not necessarily the one visiting the greatest number of places. It is the combination that matches your wildlife priorities, preferred beach environment, and available time.

Greater Kruger offers the widest choice of safari lodges and some of Southern Africa’s most established wildlife experiences.
Travellers can stay in Kruger National Park or select a private reserve such as Sabi Sand, Timbavati or Manyeleti. This route works particularly well for first-time safari visitors, honeymooners and families wanting dependable game viewing before continuing to Mozambique.
Greater Kruger can be paired with Vilanculos, Benguerra Island, Bazaruto Island or selected southern beach destinations.
Gorongosa National Park suits travellers looking for a less conventional safari shaped by conservation recovery, varied landscapes and lower visitor numbers.
The experience focuses on wildlife, birdlife, expert guiding and the ecological restoration of one of Africa’s most important protected areas. Gorongosa should not be selected solely for a Big Five checklist, but it can be exceptionally rewarding for repeat safari travellers and conservation-minded visitors.
Four or five safari nights followed by five to seven nights in Vilanculos or the Bazaruto Archipelago creates a strong Mozambique-only journey.

Maputo National Park offers a compact bush and beach alternative for travellers approaching from South Africa or Maputo.
Its lakes, grasslands, wetlands, dune forests and coastline create a distinctive wilderness experience. Wildlife sightings are less predictable than in Greater Kruger, but the route combines naturally with Machangulo, Ponta Mamoli and other southern Mozambique beach retreats.
This option works well for couples, repeat visitors and travellers who prefer fewer flights and transfers.
The beach portion determines the pace and atmosphere of the second half of your holiday.

Vilanculos offers boutique hotels, villas, beachfront lodges, local restaurants and convenient access to Bazaruto Archipelago excursions.
It suits travellers who want greater independence, a wider accommodation range and the freedom to add dhow trips, snorkelling, diving or island excursions.
Benguerra Island is best suited to travellers prioritising seclusion, personalised service and private villa accommodation.
Its quiet beaches and low-density resorts create a natural contrast after the structured rhythm of a safari. It is particularly strong for honeymoons, anniversaries and luxury celebrations.

Bazaruto Island offers long beaches, dramatic dunes and a broader resort environment within the protected archipelago.
It can work well for couples and families who want an island setting with organised activities, marine experiences and resort facilities.
Machangulo combines secluded beaches with practical access through Maputo.
It is a strong choice for travellers pairing Maputo National Park or Greater Kruger with a quieter southern Mozambique beach stay.

Safari and beach combinations work exceptionally well for honeymoons because they balance shared adventure with privacy and relaxation.
Greater Kruger followed by Benguerra Island is one of the strongest luxury combinations, while Gorongosa and Benguerra provide a more unusual conservation-led alternative. Ending at the beach usually creates the best rhythm after early safari mornings.
Families also benefit from combining wildlife and beach time, provided the itinerary is planned around the children’s ages.
Room layouts, private safari vehicle costs, minimum ages for activities, transfer times and swimming conditions should all be checked before booking. Greater Kruger and Vilanculos generally provide the widest range of family-friendly options.
A simple two-destination journey is often more comfortable than adding several short stops.

Small safari camps, premium island resorts, and private family villas have limited room inventories.
Early planning is particularly important for:
Planning early provides more choice and allows the routing to be built around practical flights and transfers.
Rates, supplier conditions and operating schedules must still be verified before booking, but an early enquiry gives our specialists greater flexibility to secure the right accommodation and create a well-paced itinerary.
The packages shown on this page are starting points.
You may prefer the safari lodge from one itinerary, the beach resort from another, and a different number of nights in each destination. A Kruger and Vilanculos package can be upgraded with a private reserve, or Benguerra Island stay. A Gorongosa journey can be extended with Cape Town, while a family itinerary can be simplified around school dates and suitable accommodation.

A Mozambique safari and beach holiday combines a wildlife experience with several nights beside the Indian Ocean.
The safari may take place in Greater Kruger, Gorongosa or Maputo National Park, while the beach stay can include Vilanculos, Benguerra, Bazaruto or Machangulo. Flights and transfers are coordinated as one itinerary.
The best package depends on your wildlife priorities, budget and preferred beach environment.
Greater Kruger and Benguerra suit travellers wanting dependable Big Five viewing and island privacy. Gorongosa and Vilanculos create a more conservation-led Mozambique journey, while Maputo National Park and Machangulo offer a shorter southern combination.
Yes. Greater Kruger and Mozambique form one of Southern Africa’s most practical safari and beach combinations.
Travellers commonly spend three to five nights in Kruger or a nearby private reserve before continuing to Vilanculos, Benguerra or Bazaruto. The best route depends on the selected lodges and current flight schedules.
A balanced itinerary normally includes three to five safari nights followed by five to seven beach nights.
Seven nights can work when the connection is simple, but nine to twelve nights creates a more relaxed holiday. International travellers adding Cape Town or another regional destination may need twelve to sixteen nights.
Inclusions may cover accommodation, meals, selected drinks, safari activities, regional flights, road transfers and boat or helicopter connections.
Park fees, premium drinks, optional activities, international flights, visas and travel insurance may be excluded. Compare the complete itinerary cost and request a clearly itemised quotation before booking.
Yes, provided the itinerary is designed around the children’s ages.
Some safari camps restrict younger children from shared game drives or walking safaris. Families should also check room configurations, transfer times, private vehicle costs and age requirements for marine activities. A simple two-destination itinerary is usually the most comfortable.
Six to twelve months is sensible for most safari and beach holidays.
Book earlier for July to September, school holidays, Christmas, New Year, fixed honeymoon dates, private villas and small safari camps. Early planning provides better accommodation choice and more time to coordinate regional flights and island transfers.
